Peretz is the VP of Product and Data in San Francisco. He works with cross-functional teams to change the healthcare marketplace from within.
What excites you about healthcare?
Healthcare touches us all. Often in unpleasant ways. 1 out of 5 Americans are undergoing collections for medical services. Medical bills are a major cause of mortgage defaults, bankruptcies, and homelessness. The US spends more per capita than her peers without achieving better outcomes.
Prior to Vim I did not foresee that I’d dedicate myself to healthcare. I’ve interacted with the healthcare system as an outsider and have perceived it as an intractable black box. Perhaps it is. Many companies have died on this hill. Yet, I am won over by Vim’s approach to the challenge. We have the resources and privileged access to data to change the healthcare marketplace from within. I am excited by the opportunity to become an expert on US healthcare.
What is your approach to building a product for this market?
While you can’t escape the complex web of healthcare administration, and the many sided nature of this marketplace, you can embrace it. Our goal is to build tools clinics love and to use that to solve problems they have. And you can’t do that without investing time to truly understand your customers. I see every moment as an opportunity to iteratively improve on our best answer to this question, incorporating new learnings and user data.
What is your proudest achievement?
Foremost is being the father of twin toddlers, and my partnership with Louisa. She has seen me through many life transitions, from Academia, to Afghanistan, to Startups. We’re all in this together!
What was the main reason you joined Vim?
In preparing for the interview, I realized Vim was solving a big problem in one of the world’s biggest markets. During the interview process I was won over by the people. Now I work with smart dynamic creative individuals across the whole organization.
What three adjectives would you use to describe Vim culture?
Empathetic – Vim’s Product has direct consequences for Patients in need of care. It is important that we are able empathize with our users in every state of mind. We try to be there for our customers at all urgent moments and share in their celebrations as well.
Collaborative – Vim assembles cross functional teams around business problems drawing across all necessary skill sets and domains. This allows us to bring our Product to Market quickly.
Playful – You can’t “move fast and break things” in healthcare, but that doesn’t mean you can’t build a creative product that delights its users. The playfulness of our team finds its way into our product.
What is your spirit animal and why?
An Octopus solves puzzles and learns from its peers. It blends into diverse environments and mimics many other creatures. It gathers information and makes executive decisions across its body and tentacles. Shout out to the Micro Smallest Mollusk Museum [link: https://micro.ooo/mollusk] for tickling my love of cephalopods.
